This piece was designed for a client, for a specific space in a new log home in Wisconsin. It was the last piece of furniture for their main living room. It is a focal wall in the room because it is one of the first things you see upon entering the room and also has to compete with the spectacular view you are drawn to beyond the windows. We wanted to display some collections but didn't want busy-ness. The step back cabinet origin is a simple farm design used in a kitchen. But the scale and simplicity of that type of a piece would have been wrong, so I designed the rustic cabinet using dead standing worm eaten Jackpine. Using small twig detailing, interesting branches and the natural curve of the sawn piece of wood, and finally a warm hand-rubbed wax finish gives us a beautiful piece of furniture that everyone is very proud of.
