Major remodel on a pristine northern lake
This client contacted me quite some time ago to just do rustic furniture for their summer cabin. I planned and executed rustic furniture in the camp style from Flat Rock and Old Hickory incorporating Duluth pack canvas on some of the pieces. This cabin is on a property that has a tremendously significant earlier history, which is evident in the clients’ many collections of books and memorabilia. Several years passed and the clients contacted me again for ideas and names of contractors to start exploring ways to update the 1950’s structure. They wanted a more northwoods feel but didn’t want to lose the importance of the history of the structure. They also wanted major bathroom improvements, and a 4 season cabin to use more comfortably all year. I thought and thought, and thought some more about how to make a northwoods feel out of 1950’s structure, and not conflict with some of the architectural details like the fireplace and roofline, that we would need to keep. With major help from the contractor we got our designs finalized to go forward with what had now become a very major remodeling including a total gutting of main cabin, partial gutting of guest cabin and adding a new garage, sauna and boat house. The project is now complete with all new everything including wonderful, warm, quiet, renewable cork floor, solar tubes, and energy efficient lighting. We are all I think very happy with the final results.
